counting sheep

So it's been another busy week. Haven't had the chance to fire up my laptop lately to edit photos and write. But now that it's the weekend, I actually don't even know what to write about.

My laptop has become a giant pain in my ass. It's a Dell Inspiron 5521 or some shit. It takes like 10 minutes to start up sometimes. The thing is also massive and ridiculously heavy. And I'm pretty sure I've got some kind of virus because every time I open a web page, it redirects to a pop-up. I constantly have to keep it plugged in because the battery is dead (or so I thought). As cool as my studio apartment back in Dallas was, the electrical outlets fried all my devices. I managed to get a new phone before I left, but a laptop battery was the last thing on my list and I never got to ordering one back in the US. So I ordered a new one last week, and guess what? It wasn't the battery that was dead. It's my AC adapter. So I've ordered a new one of those today. Hopefully making my laptop a little bit less of a pain in my ass.

Work was definitely a lot better last week. Remember how I said Josh wasn't enjoying it? Well he was actually the top performer in my team last week, so you could say he's getting the hang of it. There was actually a mini-competition within the office; whoever won got a free steak dinner... Anyone who knows Josh will know this is the best motivation for him out there. Which is why he won. Finally having a good work-week has made our weekend that much more relaxing and enjoyable. I was planning on approaching Andrew last Monday to see what the update was for sending Josh and I on a roaming team. Thankfully I didn't need to, he's the one that called us in for a meeting to talk about it. If next week goes as well as this past one, we'll finally get to leave Auckland! Yep, first week of October, we're out of here. I won't miss the traffic, but I'll definitely miss the people. Especially Jared, the guy from Chile I mentioned last week. His working holiday visa ends next month, then he and his partner are on their way to Australia. Josh and I are actually gonna join them on a road trip to Hobbiton next weekend. So yeah, sorry in advanced if I end up not posting until after our roaming week.

Jared is kind of a boy version of me to be honest. We have similar humor, similar travel goals, even a similar kind of recklessness. Last night, Josh and I had a really nice dinner with him and Ale (his partner). We got the chance to just chill out and get to know each other outside of our work environment. When he told me his long-term plans I was slightly annoyed, but really excited at the same time. Because they're exactly like mine. Josh and I are planning on going to Australia after New Zealand as well. Though, we probably won't cross paths with him and Ale in Aus because Josh and I's travel dates are like a year behind theirs. They're going to eventually make it back to the Americas and build a camperbus (fuckin copycats) to road trip the entire continent (again....copycats). So we'll probably run into them again, hopefully sooner rather than later. I'm predicting a Burning Man reunion though. The best similarity is that he used to rock some pretty long hair a few years ago, and when he showed me a picture of it I couldn't help but laugh. We even have the same insane hair. Made Josh really uncomfortable which had me cracking up all over again. I'll take plenty of pics with them before they leave so you can put faces to names.

Sorry for an uneventful post. And sorry the picture isn't even relevant, I'm trying here. Hey, at least I'm finally making friends. That's something, right? Until next week my wanderlusters ♥
